What is TAB-separated file and how it can be open in Excel
|
|
TAB-separated file is like CSV file but it uses TAB instead of comma as a filed delimiter. Usually its extension is ‘tsv’ or ‘tab’.
We recommend using TAB-separated file rather than CSV because it allows saving commas within field values that
frequently are important in data values.
When it is open in a correct viewer, TAB separated file should look like CSV file. For instance it can be viewed/edited by Excel.
Nevertheless some Excel versions cannot determine automatically that the file is TAB-separated, so you have to instruct Excel in that case.
To do it, open Excel and then pick the needed file in menu File->Open. Excel will show then the text import wizard
where it will ask to specify what a delimiter is used. Usually you have only to press the button Finish there to get the TAB-separated file
opened in Excel correctly.
